Sydney Harbour National Park

Many Sydneysiders, as well as tourists visiting Australia’s most beautiful city don’t always realise that the magnificent and unique Sydney Harbour, including its islands, bays and foreshore, is in fact officially a National Park.

Managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, the Sydney Harbour National Park was established in 1975 to protect islands, landforms and foreshore areas that exist in the Sydney Harbour, primarily east of the Harbour Bridge.

Home to a great variety of bushwalking tracks, picnic areas, secluded beaches, lookout points and historic sites, Sydney Harbour National Park has something for everyone!

The national park is renowned for its sheltered beaches, tranquil picnic spots, rich Aboriginal, colonial and military heritage, aquatic reserves and harbour islands.

Walking Tours

Alan Toner - EcoWalks Tours

Sydney Harbour EcoWalks Tours offers guided walking tours that acknowledges and respects the natural, social, cultural and traditional values, heritage and diversity within the Sydney Harbour National Park.

We provide walkers with a unique experience to see and learn about the native plants and animals within Sydney Harbour National Park. The bushland has an abundance of endemic plant species of Eastern Suburb Banksia Scrub as well as Sandstone Gully Forest landscapes in which I will point out along the way. These plants may include the Acacia Terminalis, Xanthorrhoe Resinifera, Woollsia Pungens as well as Banksia Ericifolia, Banksia Integrifolia and Banksia Serrata and many more. For the bird lovers out there, we will point out for you the opportunities to photograph Sea Eagles, New Holland Honey Eaters, Galahs, Cockatoos, Kookaburras, Brush Turkeys and the Splendid Wrens.

We offer two guided walks that begin from the Taronga Zoo Wharf. Georges Head Walk visits sites at Bradleys Head, Taylor Bay, Chowder Bay to Georges Head and finishes at Drift Cafe. The Middle Head Battery Walk includes all the same sites but continues to Obelisk Bay, Middle Head and finishes at Balmoral Beach.
